John Taylor is the
earliest individual and ancestor that can be found carrying the Taylor
name at the time of this writing. He was born in Pennsylvania
on July 21, 1775
and it is most probable that John was part of the 1784
emigration to Kentucky. The birth site of John's oldest children
in Kentucky
help bear out this fact.
John Taylor married Elizabeth
Smith on January 21, 1797
in Kentucky. Elizabeth Smith was born March 30, 1780.
Between this union 14 children were born. At some point after 1810,
John and Elizabeth moved across the Ohio River and settled in or near Canaan
in Jefferson
County, Indiana with some of their 14 children where John farmed according
